So why not combine 2 of my favorite things and do a vintage inspired "stylized" photo session?
I went prop shopping the other day after a morning shoot, and found a couple of collectable stores in Bothell. In the past couple of weeks, I've been keeping my eye out for vintage hats, and these places have LOTS and lots of them!! Wow I was in heaven!! I talked to Janie Crooks at Bothell's Main Street Antiques (10124 Main St
Bothell, WA 98011....425-806-0100) and told her how I was hoping for a really cool vintage session in the future. I asked her if I could take some photos in the shop and blog about it, and she said sure! I wish they had a website so I could link to it.
So have a look at these cool hats, and envision yourself in a couple of them. I have already bought SO many props for all the babies and children I photograph, I just can't start buying adult things too!! But I'm hoping this post will INSPIRE someone that would like to plan a session like this. In fact, I may just be offering some sort of contest in the future so encourage fellow vintage lovers to go out and purchase a few of these awesome things! I'm thinking a teenager....young adult or a couple would be so cool for this!
Even if you're not into vintage yourself....pass this on to someone you know that might be:)
By the way, Janie sells on Ebay too as well as bringing some of her items in to the store to sell. Check her out!! And she has a business called Crooksy Creations for her handcrafted one of a kind artist dolls, santas and vintage inspired Whimsey's.
And how cool is this black hat below??
After leaving Main street antiques, Jainie pointed me to "Not Just Antiques" at 19215 Bothell Way NE, Bothell Wa 98011.....425-483-2883, where I met Valerie Dodge the lovely owner. Valerie's shop has numerous consigners who also happen to have a love of vintage hats. I found many more there, but didn't take my camera in. We got talking while I was looking at all the neat things, and have even started talking about doing "Santa photo days" come this holiday season. Just so happens, Valerie has the use of a true vintage santa suit and lots of ideas for a neat setup and staging. I offered my photo services and we may just have a deal! How fun would that be? After all, Christmas is right around the corner.
So I had a very productive day yesterday, met 2 fantastic ladies, and hope to inspire some readers into thinking about that vintage photo session!
Keep an eye on my FB business page.....sometime in the future I hope to be announcing a casting call or some sort of incentive for the vintage session and also posting a flyer for the Santa photos!
